Mikel Arteta has suggested Arsenal may need to take risks in the transfer market in order to compete with the best in the Premier League. Arsenal's hopes of European qualification are fading fast after they lost 2-1 to Tottenham in the north London derby on Sunday, leaving them ninth in the standings, two points off the top eight and priced at 25/1 with bet365 for a top six finish. After a poor start to the season under former head coach Unai Emery, the Gunners have lost only three of the 15 league games they have played in 2020 under Arteta's stewardship but the Spaniard insists they may need to invest if they are to get back into the Champions League. When asked if Arsenal need to gamble with big-money signings, Arteta replied:
"You see many good examples of teams that have done it and they have come back to their habit on it. "
If you are not in the Champions League and you say 'OK, I don't invest because I don't have the financial ability to do it' but the other clubs invest, then the gap becomes bigger.
