Steve Bruce has declared that he is keen to retain the services of Matty Longstaff and added that Newcastle have offered the midfielder a
"fantastic"
deal to stay at the club. Hometown hero Longstaff, who is joined in the Newcastle squad by his older brother Sean, quickly became a fans favourite at St James' Park when he scored the only goal in a debut victory over Manchester United in October. The Magpies have since been working on extending Longstaff's deal ahead of it expiring this summer but have found the going tough with the 20-year-old reportedly turning down a previous offer. Bruce says a new and improved deal is now on the table and is hopeful Longstaff will put pen to paper.
"We want him to stay, the club wants him to stay. We've made him a really good offer so let's hope that we can get it over the line,"
said Bruce. Longstaff will miss Sunday's clash against Sheffield United, a game Newcastle are 23/10 to win with bet365.
