Schmeichel expects United to stick by De Gea

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel says it is too early for his old club to replace current No.1 David de Gea with young shot stopper Dean Henderson. Henderson has caught the eye with a string of fine performances for loan side Sheffield United this season, keeping 10 clean sheets in the Premier League and helping the newly-promoted Blades climb to seventh in the standings. The 23-year-old is expected to return to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign when his loan deal with Sheffield United expires and could challenge de Gea for his spot in United's starting XI. The Spaniard has been first-choice for the Red Devils since joining in 2011 and Schmeichel expects the Spaniards to retain his position, despite a series of high-profile errors over the last 12 months, believing Henderson needs to prove himself again next term.

"Henderson will need to show another season, like he's just come through, and then another one, and another one, in order to convince everyone that he is the right guy,"

said the Dane, who spent eight years with United.

"There's a really big difference between being the number one at Bramall Lane and Old Trafford, a really big difference. Even just being a player at those two clubs."

Meanwhile, De Gea's Spain side are 8/1 with bet365 to win Euro 2021.
